ABOUT THE WATCH
Air Wolf UTC is designed and developed together with the 31st flight technician group at F21, Lulea, in the Swedish Air Force. These flight technicians perform service and maintenance of the JAS 39 Gripen fighter jet. The collab between MALM and 31st squadron aimed to develop a high quality tool watch with the ability to track and log your working hours in UTC.
The watch is powered by an automatic movement from Seagull with UTC complication. The inner rotating bezel is operated through the crown at two o'clock position. 14 and 16 hours has been highlighted in red which is the max. recommended working hours and max. permitted working hours for an aviation technician within the Swedish Air Force. By using the bezel and UTC complication you can track and log your working hours in UTC time.
The Air Wolf watch has been inspired by classic flieger watches and has plenty of details from Swedish fighter jets. The arabic numbers on the bezel are collected from JA 37 Viggen and grey arabic numbers in the dial from the speedometer in J 35 Draken. The sweeping second hand has a silhouette of Jas 39 Gripen and the sword-shaped hour- and minute hands are large and easy to read. The 4-piece case construction has an unique aluminum barrel with a surface inspired by various grips in cockpits and tools.
The watch case is made out of 316L stainless steel. It has been given a sand brushed matt surface which makes it more resistant to scratches. The watch is available in two colors; silver/steel and gun metal (graphite). Furthermore, the dial and hands comes in various colors and variations.
USE AND OPERATION
Air Wolf UTC is powered by a so-called automatic movement with a complication to display UTC-time. An automatic movement is not powered by a battery, instead it is equipped with a rotor that rotates freely when the watch is moved around on your wrist, winding the mainspring.
An automatic watch requires a certain physical activity in order to be fully powered. When fully powered, the Air Wolf can keep running for 38 hours. To make sure that you have given the movement enough power, you can manually wind the mainspring via the crown at 4 o'clock position.
