"CATALINA is an emotional watch. A tribute to the amphibious aircraft Catalina TP 47 who searched for the missing Douglas DC-3, and was shot down by the Soviet Union in 1952."

The CATALINA plane crash occured the 16th of June in 1952 when a Catalina TP47, Swedish Air Force reference number 47002, was shot down by a Russian MiG15 during a search mission for the missing Douglas DC-3. The event has become a symbol of the frosty relationship between Sweden and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

INFORMATION AND USE

CATALINA is a highly personal chronograph with a clean and distinct appearance. The dark blue dial creates a clear contrast to the bronze case and highlights indexes and hands that appear in a beautiful, marine style.

The watch is powered by a Seiko movement, the VK64, which is a so-called meca-quartz movement that combines traditional, mechanical technology with modern quartz technology. The chronograph is powered by the mechanical part of the movement with a sweeping center-positioned second hand, while the rest is powered by the quartz technique (battery).

The chronograph uses the left subdial and the center-positioned second hand. The left dial indicates minutes and the center-positioned second hand indicates seconds. It comes with a start, stop and reset function and runs for 60 minutes. The chronograph is preferably used when navigating between breakpoints during flight in order to calculate time and fuel consumption of the planned route.

The right subdial indicates current hour of the day (am/pm), 0-24. The date window is positioned at 6 o'clock.

DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN

The MALM characteristic shape of the lugs and crown guards are refined with satin brushed and polished details. The bezel is equipped minute markers with numbers every 5 minutes, a rough grip surface which is easily grabbed with gloves on and turned counterclockwise.

The domed, sapphire crystal comes with a steep mount in the watch case. The bottom surface has been given an anti-reflective coating and the top surface a coating against fingerprints and dirt. In addition the sapphire crystal has an enhancing effect of the dials luster, creating a clear look and view over the dial surface.

Indexes are made of bronze and have a strong luminous effect using the superluminova C1 - a white color in daylight and a greenish, glowing look in darkness.
