DESIGN

The Catalina Aeronautical Chronograph is a Swedish pilot watch named after the amphibious aircraft Consolidated PBY Catalina, known in the Swedish Air Force as the TP47, and famous for being shot down in 1952 by the Sovjet Union when searching for the missing Douglas DC-3.

WATCH CASE

The watch case, case back and bezel is made out of 316L stainless steel and uses a balanced mix between satin brushed and polished surfaces. The case has been designed with both sharp and soft edges, creating an exclusive look and feel. The polished surfaces of the lugs runs along the case and into the crown guards protecting the screwed down crown. Pushers and crown has been designed with grooved grip-surfaces typical for different details in cockpit and aviation in general.

DIAL

The dark blue watch dial hosts steel indices with curved corners. Indices, minute- and hour hands have been filled with superluminova C1 which is white in daylight and turns green in darkness. The hands of the two subdials, as well as the font of all numbers, has been designed according to various gauges in the Catalina aircraft cockpit. The shape and design of the minute and hour hands are inspired by traditional divers watches that reminds us that this is watch for both land and sea - just like the amphibious Catalina aircraft.

SAPPHIRE & BEZEL

The watch is equipped with a double domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating as well as a protective top surface coating. The 120 click bezel turns counterclockwise.

MOVEMENT

The watch runs on a movement from Seiko called VK64 which is a combination of quartz technology and traditional mechanical engineering. Hour- minute and second hands runs on battery and the chronograph runs on the mechanical parts with a 1/5 second sweeping hand.
